Welcome to the year-end edition of our e-zine

As we close 2025 and look ahead, I am filled with optimism for the exciting year to come.

Industry Highlights

India’s IT exports surged in 2025, rising to $224.4 billion from $199.5 billion in 2024—a remarkable 12.5% growth, compared to just 2.8% the previous year. This momentum sets a strong foundation for the opportunities we anticipate in 2026. At the same time, salary growth across IT companies has moderated to 4–8.5%, reflecting a shift toward skills-based pay and cost-efficient hiring. The industry is clearly evolving, rewarding expertise and adaptability.

Q: Can you share a bit about your career path and how you grew into your current role at Vtrio?

A: I started my career as an ASP developer and later transitioned to PHP, working with frameworks like Yii and Laravel to build scalable web applications. Along the way, I also worked with Python for backend scripts and integrations. Over time, I grew into a senior role by taking ownership of architecture, code quality, which led me to my current position at Vtrio.

Q: There's a misconception that PHP is 'old school.' As a Senior Lead, how do you defend the tech stack or show its modern capabilities to skeptics?

A: PHP isn't old school—platforms like Magento and Laravel-based systems power high-traffic, enterprise-scale applications when built with modern PHP practices.
What matters more than the language is how it's used—when built with proper standards, testing, CI/CD, and cloud-ready architecture, PHP scales reliably

Q: What is the most complex spaghetti code situation you've untangled, and how did it feel when it finally ran smoothly?

A: We once inherited a legacy PHP/Magento system where business logic, SQL, and UI were tightly coupled across hundreds of files with no clear ownership. I tackled it by first stabilizing the system, adding logging and tests, then gradually refactoring into services and reusable modules. When it finally ran smoothly, the biggest relief wasn't just performance—it was knowing the team could now understand, maintain, and scale the system without fear.

Q: How do you balance the need for 'perfect code' with the reality of tight deadlines when leading your team?

A: I focus on building the right code, not perfect code. Under tight deadlines, we prioritize correctness, security, and scalability, while clearly documenting any trade-offs. I encourage incremental improvements—deliver a stable solution first, then refactor and optimize as part of planned technical debt, so speed never compromises long-term quality.

Q: What do you enjoy most about working at Vtrio?

A: What I enjoy most about working at Vtrio is the balance between strong technical ownership and trust. There's room to solve real problems, grow as a team, and the friendly culture—even the carrom games—makes the workplace genuinely enjoyable.

Q: What's one thing you're passionate about outside of work that might surprise your team?

A: For me, meaningful work is the biggest enjoyment. When I'm solving problems and learning every day, it already feels fulfilling, so that passion naturally blends into my life outside work.

Over the past few years, my journey as a frontend engineer has been shaped by hands-on experience with production-grade applications where performance, scalability, and real-world usability truly mattered. Working across different domains has allowed me to deepen my understanding of modern frontend architecture while consistently delivering reliable and engaging user experiences.

Project 1: High-Traffic E-Commerce Storefront

One of the most impactful projects I worked on was a high-traffic e-commerce storefront in the retail domain. The application was built using Next.js (App Router) and TypeScript, and my role focused on enhancing both application performance and developer experience.

I worked extensively with server-side rendering (SSR) and dynamic routing optimizations to improve page load times and strengthen SEO. To ensure long-term maintainability, I built strongly typed, reusable components that reduced bugs and improved code readability across the codebase.

A key contribution was designing an optimized API utility layer that seamlessly integrated data from multiple backend services. Alongside this, I implemented bundle optimization, code splitting, and caching strategies to ensure faster interactions and smoother navigation, even under heavy traffic.

I also paid close attention to cross-device consistency and accessibility standards, ensuring the storefront delivered a clean, reliable, and inclusive shopping experience for users across different platforms and screen sizes.

Project 2: Medical Ed-Tech Learning Platform

In another project, I contributed to a medical ed-tech platform built for students and healthcare professionals. This was a highly interactive, data-driven application developed using React, TypeScript, Styled-components, and Mapbox.

My responsibilities included building scalable and modular React components and implementing styled-components to maintain clean, isolated, and manageable UI styling. One of the standout aspects of this project was integrating Mapbox, where I helped deliver advanced geographic visualizations to support location-based data exploration.

To improve code organization and reusability, I created custom React hooks that separated business logic from UI components. I also built structured API communication layers with proper caching and error handling to improve reliability and performance.

Quality and stability were key priorities, so I set up Cypress end-to-end tests to safeguard against regressions and ensure consistent behavior. Performance optimizations such as lazy loading, prefetching, and error boundaries further enhanced the user experience.

Closing Thoughts

Across all my projects, I consistently focus on:

  • Writing clean, predictable, and maintainable code
  • Designing scalable frontend architectures
  • Delivering high-performance and user-friendly experiences

Each project has helped refine my approach to frontend engineering, strengthening my ability to balance technical strength with real-world product needs.
